The hall is elegantly decorated with period-style furnishings, and attendants are dressed in Song-dynasty court attire. Throughout the banquet, guests are treated to immersive performances including singing, dancing, and traditional tea ceremonies. The dishes are recreated using ancient recipes—featuring iconic delicacies such as Dongpo Braised Pork and Crab Stuffed with Orange, each rich in both flavour and historical significance. Having weathered centuries of change, this factory still upholds the traditional craftsmanship of Hui ink making, preserving a thousand-year legacy that continues to this day. The art of Hui ink making is a nationally recognized intangible cultural heritage, and here you will have the rare opportunity to witness the entire process of this exquisite craft up close.Experience of Huizhou ink making Guided by a professional master, you will learn about the history, culture, and production techniques of Hui ink. In the ink-making workshop, you will participate hands-on in the process, witnessing the remarkable transformation from raw materials into finished ink sticks.Tracing a thousand years of heritage, you will also discover the elegance of She inkstones. The She inkstone carving experience is a deep journey into history and cultural preservation. Under the guidance of skilled artisans, you will take part in the entire inkstone-making process – from selecting stone and designing patterns, to holding the carving knife and feeling the focus and joy of each cut. It is a magical process that turns an ordinary stone into a refined work of art.Enjoying a Huangmei Opera performance is more than just a feast for the eyes and ears – it is a gentle encounter with traditional culture. Through the melodies of Huangmei Opera, you will come to appreciate the rich charm and romance of the Jiangnan region.

Lao Hu Kaiwen Ink Factory
Located in the ancient town of She County, Anhui, the factory was established in 1956. It is the only professional production facility in She County dedicated to preserving the intangible cultural heritage of Hui ink since the founding of the People's Republic of China. The factory preserves the historic plaque of the Lao Hu Kaiwen Ink Workshop, a wealth of historical documents on Hui ink, and a fine collection of exquisite ink moulds dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is also home to a team of highly skilled masters and artisans.

A Millennial Encounter with the Fragrance of Ink – Experience of Huizhou ink making
Hui ink originated in the Tang Dynasty and flourished during the Ming and Qing dynasties. From its very beginnings, it has been closely tied to scholars and artists. Its legendary status was cemented by figures such as Li Yu, the last ruler of the Southern Tang, who favoured the ink of Li Yangui from Shezhou, and by the renowned ink master Hu Kaiwen, whose "Globe Ink" won a gold medal at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition. In the soot-collecting workshop, burning pine branches release wisps of smoke, producing the most essential raw material of Hui ink – pine soot – which begins its magical journey of transformation. During the mixing process, the soot is kneaded and beaten repeatedly with animal glue to ensure a perfect blend. The prepared ink paste is then pressed into ornate moulds; with firm pressure, the intricate designs of flowers, birds, landscapes, and literary motifs are imprinted onto the ink sticks, becoming lasting marks of art and culture.

Carving the Legend of a Thousand Years – She inkstone carving experience
Renowned since the Tang Dynasty with a history of over a thousand years, She inkstones have long been treasured by scholars and artists. They are celebrated for their smooth, fine texture, dense grain, excellent water retention, and the ability to produce rich, oily ink with ease. The craft of She inkstone making centres on carving – from stone selection, shaping, and design, to carving, polishing, and finishing – every step demands the artisan's keen eye and skilful hands. Led by a master who is a national-level bearer of intangible cultural heritage, you will watch as the master's knife dances across the stone – sometimes with delicate precision, sometimes with bold, powerful strokes – drawing gasps of admiration from the audience. Under the master's guidance, you too can use the knife as a brush and the stone as paper, discovering within this small space the unique charm of a thousand-year-old tradition and taking home an unforgettable cultural experience.

图片3.2.png

Special Arrangement: Huangmei Opera Performance
Hidden within the lanes of grey brick and black-tiled roofs lies the melodious echo of Huangmei Opera. When the water sleeves gently rise and the singing flows like a clear spring over stone banks, the lyric "Birds in the trees form pairs" weaves the tenderness of Jiangnan into the drama. Find a wooden seat before the stage, watch the expressive eyes of the female roles, and listen to the clear, bright voices of the male leads. Whether it is the romance of The Heavenly Match or the spirited tale of The Female Prime Minister, each melody carries the grace and beauty of the mountains and rivers of Anhui.

Experience the realism of "choosing one of the tens of millions of hairs" of Huibi. From the selection of materials to the completion of the brush, every step is hidden in skill.

China Huizhou Culture Museumu200c

The master of Huizhou culture, with the theme of "Huizhou People and Huizhou Culture", the "Entering Huizhou" exhibition hall, the restoration scene of the dinosaur fossil unearthed site at Jimu Mountain takes you back to the ancient origin of Huizhou; the "Huizhou Merchants of the World" exhibition hall, the folk proverb "I was born in Huizhou without cultivating in my previous life. When I was thirteen or fourteen years old, I threw it away" seems to be echoing in my ears; the "Huizhou Women" exhibition hall shows the Huizhou merchants The tenacity and dedication of the women behind the scenes; the "Huizhou Education" exhibition hall highlights Huizhou's reputation as "Southeast Zoulu" and "Chengzhu Queli"; the "Huizhou Architecture" exhibition hall presents models of ancient villages such as Xiongcun, Chengkan, Xidi, and Hongcun; the "Huizhou Art" exhibition hall shows the treasure of the town hall "Wenfu Ink" calmly placed in a brocade box. As the earliest Huizhou ink discovered in China, it has lasted for thousands of years.

Huizhou Cake and Pastry Museumu200c

Encounter the world of fireworks in cakes. In the long scroll of Huizhou culture, there is one flavor that always lingers, and that is the sweetness of Huizhou cakes. Upon entering the museum, a huge stone mill comes into view. It is 5 meters in diameter and weighs 5,000 kilograms. It stands quietly and witnesses the changes over the years. The history of pastry development on the second floor slowly unfolds on the corridor wall. From the establishment of Hu Xingtang in 1823 to the present, the inheritance path of nearly 200 years can be clearly seen. The "Four Seasons" exhibition area displays Huizhou's traditional seasonal cakes and cakes.

Huizhou Crisp Making Experience

The sweet time in Huimo Suli is a cultural journey that can be eaten in your mouth. Hui Mo Su is the soul of literati. Black sesame seeds are ground into powder in graphite and mixed with soft white sugar, giving it a warm and moist texture like Hui ink. The master kneads the flour into dough, then presses it into a mold engraved with landscape patterns. When it is removed from the mold, a shiny black shortbread that resembles Hui ink lies in the palm of your hand. If you smell it up close, you will feel the mellow aroma of sesame seeds; if you put it in your mouth, it will be delicate and melt in your mouth. Sweet but not greasy, it seems that the pen, ink, paper and inkstone of Huizhou have been transformed into elegance on the tip of the tongue. No wonder some people say that eating Huimo cake is like chewing a bite of solidified ink. Huizhou Suhui will tell you: You don’t need to read the words to understand some cultures, just take a bite and you will understand.

图片4.1.png

Tunxi Old Street

Walking into Tunxi Old Street is like stepping into a historical time tunnel. The 853-meter-long old street is composed of more than 300 Hui-style buildings, with streets and lanes crisscrossing it like a maze. The uniform Huizhou architecture, with pink walls, black tiles, horse-head walls, cornices and lattice windows, all reveal a rich ancient charm. The exquisite wood carvings, brick carvings and stone carvings on the gate tower are lifelike, telling ancient stories and making people marvel at the luxury and sophistication of "a thousand taels of silver and seven hundred doors". There are many century-old shops and intangible cultural heritage stores. Huangshan Shaobing, Hairy Tofu, Huimo Crisps, Stinky Mandarin Fish, Wenzheng Bamboo Shoots and many other Huizhou delicacies will give you a feast for your tongue.

Yangwen Brush Studio Yangwen Brush Studio

The story of Yang Wen Brush Shop begins in the late Qing Dynasty. Our ancestors relied on the rule of "choosing fine hair like jade" to establish a firm foothold in Huizhou. Now passed down to the fourth generation, the old method of 72 processes is still adhered to. Yellowed old photos hang on the wall, including photos of literati who came here to customize brushes during the Republic of China.

图4.2.png

The character on the pen tip, the gentleness of repeated polishing——

Huizhou Brush Making Experience

Hold an emblem pen and have a dialogue with thousands of years of ingenuity. Come and join in this pen-making ceremony. When learning "combination", hairs of different thicknesses should be matched in proportion, with wolf hair in front for strength, and sheep hair at the back for moisture. The weight of the fingers hides the essence of the pen; when practicing "tying brush", the twine should be wrapped like growth rings, with more circles making it tighter and less circles making it looser. During the pen trimming process, use small scissors to trim the tip of the pen carefully, not only to make the tip of the pen as neat as a knife, but also to retain the natural elasticity of the vellus hairs. When a pen gradually takes shape in my hand, I suddenly understand why the ancients said that "the pen is the seal of the heart". This hand-made pen already has your breath in it.

Itinerary: Huangshan City-Xuan Paper Cultural Park: Creative Rice Paper Experience (about 40 minutes)-Chaji Ancient Village-Tangkou

After breakfast, depart for Jingxian County and head toRice Paper Cultural ParkThis is the soul habitat of rice paper culture and the inheritance of thousands of years of skills. When you step into this land, it feels like you have opened a thick history book, with the legend of rice paper written on every page. participateCreative rice paper experienceExperience paper fishing and drying with your own hands, and make your own creative floral paper.Chaji Ancient VillageWalking on the bluestone slabs, old stories are embedded in the lines under your feet. The old Hui-style houses on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are very close to each other, and the wood carvings on the window lattice have been softened by time. Check in hotel at night.

Xuan Paper Culture ParkXuan Paper Culture Park

Walking into the Rice Paper Museum is like embarking on a time journey. On the first floor are green sandalwood bark and Shatian straw, which are the origins of rice paper. From raw materials to finished products, the detailed display of each process will make you marvel at the delicacy and rigor of rice paper production. Every step is full of the wisdom of the ancestors. The second floor is a palace of art, where rice paper calligraphy and paintings by famous artists from past dynasties hang quietly, and the charm between the brushstrokes seems to tell stories of the past. In the Sanzhangsanjuxuan production workshop, you can witness with your own eyes the birth of the "Big Mac in the paper industry". You will understand that this is not only making paper, but also passing on a spirit.

The tenderness created by nature and craftsmanship, the whispers of fingertips and millennia of craftsmanship——

Creative Xuan Paper Experience

It means that the entire process from pulp preparation to paper making is experienced by oneself. Be sure to experience paper fishing and drying with your own hands. Use a bamboo curtain to gently scoop it into the pulp pool, and the fibers will evenly adhere to the curtain. This is the most intimate contact with rice paper. Then stick the wet paper to the fire wall, feeling the heat slowly take away the moisture, and the paper gradually becomes as thin as cicada wings. After mixing pulp and adding medicine, add dried flowers and sequins to the pulp or wet paper, use your imagination to combine graphics, fish them out and dry them. The finished product can be taken home directly for collection, or you can create creative bookmarks, graffiti, etc.

Zhaji Ancient Village

White walls and black tiles spread along the tributaries of the Qingyi River. The horse-head wall is looming in the clouds and mist, as if it came out of the ink paintings of the Song and Yuan Dynasties. It has been standing for thousands of years. Pushing open the creaking wooden door, you might bump into an old man sunbathing. Don’t miss the “Deyi Hall” in the village. The courtyard of the old house hides the ingenuity of Huizhou architecture. In the evening, smoke rises from the rooftops and intertwines with the mist in the mountains. The entire village is shrouded in a haze, so gentle that it makes your heart tremble.
